Meet Our Founders

HeartSuite was developed by Karen Heart (J.D., M.Sc.) and Dr. Alexander Rasin (Ph.D., M.Sc.) — two experts in the field of computer science and cybersecurity who have authored multiple research papers and have decades of complementary experience in diverse areas that include software development, data management, education, law, intellectual property, and academic research.

Mission to Elevate Cybersecurity

Frustrated by the current state of computer security, as well as the rising tide of malware, ransomware attacks, and data breaches, Karen and Alex realized that business as usual wasn’t working — it was time to take cybersecurity to a higher level with a groundbreaking new approach.

That lightbulb moment was the catalyst that led to the creation of HeartSuite. The team at HeartSuite have leveraged Karen and Alex’s insight and experience to build the ideal solution for organizations in need of an enterprise Linux server that’s secure, affordable, and easy to integrate into their current software ecosystem.

Karen Heart is a teacher, software developer, and attorney with many years of experience in multiple fields. From standalone end user applications to middleware to architecting distributed systems, Karen has created a wide range of software products and tools for a variety of industries, including publishing, banking, insurance, and logistics, among others.

As an attorney, Karen has concentrated her work in intellectual property and civil and criminal litigation, including some appellate work. Currently, Karen is laser-focused on developing HeartSuite, a culmination of years of research into building proactive and comprehensive cybersecurity solutions.

Dr. Alexander Rasin (Ph.D., M.Sc.)

Dr. Alexander Rasin is an Associate Professor in the College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) at DePaul University. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Science from Brown University, Providence. Alex’s research interests range from large-scale database system optimization to biomedical data integration and machine learning applications across multiple fields.

More recently, his research interests expanded to include a variety of cybersecurity solutions including database forensics, access control, and data governance and compliance. Across these areas, Alex seeks to interleave academic research with transitioning these same solutions into real-world applications.
